What My Love is For (2016)

2024 Entry #63 11-08-24 “What My Love is For”

The description from IMDB reads: “A self-critical county boy must outwit the ruling class to save his ancestral home before the bank forecloses at the end of the summer.”

Okay.

Having been ill at the time, I didn’t write anything about this either – but I remember that it is not very good and that it wanders a bit. I didn’t hate the cast but the performances were sort of all over the place and the film has a terrible “ending” – I mean, it just ends and it feels more like they ran out of money than they came to a satisfying conclusion.

Oh well. I bought it on sale, with a coupon, so I only paid a couple bucks for it.

Walk For Me (2016)

2022 Entry #020 02-01-22 “Walk For Me” is a 12 minute 2016 short film which was written and directed by Elegance Bratton (“Pier Kids”, “Buck”). The film is a contemporary coming out story about a trans girl named Hassan (Aaliyah King) who explores her identity voguing under the name Hanna and must make some difficult but intuitive decisions about how she will allow herself to be seen and how she will allow herself to be addressed.

Another great short! This was such a nice surprise. And I would welcome a feature length version.

Golden Boys (2016)

2022 Entry #011 01-29-22 “Golden Boys” is a 9 minute 2016 short which was written by Andrew Musselman & directed by Jill Riley. The plot concerns three men breaking into their old school to memorialize the death of a boy they bullied (often suggesting that he was gay) despite (or because of) the fact that they might be gay themselves.

I wish I enjoyed this more. The actors are fine and there are some nice images but I found the fragmented story confusing and it felt like I was missing a big piece of the story. The IMDB summary features several critical details that I don’t think were featured in the actual film, or at the very least, they weren’t made clear enough for this audience member.

I rented this from Amazon Prime; it’s part of the collection “The Male Gaze: Three’s Company”, which I’ll likely continue with soon.
