“Inside My Heart”

Saturday, Aaron really noticed how being in the FL house was affecting me. There were roaches all over downstairs and despite us cleaning and working to improve the place, it just felt like these assholes who rented from us had destroyed the safe space we’d had before. We toyed with the idea of extending our trip so we could get more done but realized that was impossible as I didn’t have the supplies of medication to do so, and I was getting depressed. Aaron moved our flight from Tuesday to Sunday night.

Saturday night we went to see The Mandalorian and Grogu, the new Star Wars movie, which we both enjoyed. The audience was respectful and mostly stayed off their phones once the movie started. The film stands on its own and you wouldn’t know you were missing anything if this is all you saw but it combines elements from The Clone Wars, Rebels, The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. Nicely done. If I ever get around to rewatching the Star Wars universe, and I’d like to, I look forward to catching this one again when I have the saga fresh in my mind.

Sunday was all about preparing for the flight home, which went relatively well. I’m so happy to be HOME! And I’m glad that I don’t have to pretend to be okay when I’m not. I didn’t sleep great Sunday night, but part of that was because I was up very late working on various projects, some of which I continued today.

One of the projects that I just finished was a viewing order for The Conjuring Universe for my site. I’m happy to have another viewing order finished. Having to figure older lists out for my website is taking a long time and I’m a bit frustrated, feeling like I’m letting people down, as several have asked for this or that thing and I don’t want to stop to put that information elsewhere when I can have it on my website.

I’m very tired because of the not sleeping well and now that I’ve finished something I’m going to get ready for bed.

Oh. And I stepped outside for a moment so my going outside streak has not been broken. That’s 23 days in a row!

“Can’t Abide The Sun”

Today was rough. We had the repairman in, a lovely man named William. We had another cleaning crew in (who didn’t clean everything we told them to). And we had the realtor. The people that lived here the last 8 or 9 months really fucked this place over. We have roaches now. Furniture I loved is ruined and it’s quite possible that all the downstairs living room furniture and carpeting will need to be replaced! It’s gross. But it’s much better now than when when we arrived just 2 nights ago. We talked about possibly staying a few extra days to help take care of more things (we leave Tuesday) but I didn’t bring any extra medication, only enough to see me through Tuesday night, so that’s out.

Today marks 32 years since I began shaving my head. 32 years as Bald Jason. I was going to go to a bar and toast the occasion but with all the drama today it was one more thing that I didn’t have to do, plus it makes better sense to do it tomorrow night. We’re planning on seeing the new Star Wars movie around 6pm and then maybe going to a bar we like in Orlando for pool, some drinks and people watching. I love meeting and talking to new people so I love going to the bars when we’re here.

I had a few fun talks with Katie today. I traded texts with Janice and our cousin Christopher. And I called Aaron’s cousin Lisa for her birthday.

I’m rereading The Drowning Girl.

The reviews for Spider-Noir seem mostly positive. I’m a huge Marvel fan so I’m interested in this but having been asked what I’m most excited about, it’s VisionQuest. I loved WandaVision and Agatha All Along and VisionQuest is said to the final part of that trilogy. Hopefully it sticks the landing and allows for further adventures of Wanda, Vision, Billy & Tommy.

Oh. And I got outside (briefly) so that’s 20 days in a row! Again, I think the most I’ve been outside on consecutive days (barring vacations) in the last several years is 4 days, so it feels like a big accomplishment. Hopefully I can back into going for my walks when we get home. Walking here would not be great for me. I’m so pale and the sun is so direct. When I was a freshman in high school I came to Florida with the choir and I got a sunburn in my eye. I had to walk around Sea World with an ice pack on my face, which someone diminished the experience of winning the trophy for best choir or whatever it was that we won. We were champions though.

“My Far From Perfect Place”

Our flight to FL yesterday was delayed by nearly 3 hours. That’s 2hours and 53 minutes sitting in the plane before takeoff. The flight itself was fine, but we arrived at our place around midnight. Our Florida property is in bad shape. We’d always had short-term renters in the past; people who stayed a week or two for a Disney vacation, and weren’t here often, leaving the place in great condition. The long-term renters were here about 8 or 9 months and they clearly had pets that they never reported. There are stains on fabrics and surfaces. The downstairs part smells. There were insects that I’d never seen before. The carpeting has some crusty spots. It is a lot of little things that will cost a lot of money to fix. In the past, this place always felt like a safe space for us, but it feels like it has been violated.

We got to bed around 2am. I did sleep for 8 hours though, until around 10am. I’ve been pretty lethargic today. I tried to put up a shower curtain but it appears that this was damaged as well. It’s all so disappointing.

Aaron, who has been fantastic, also hooked me up with a laptop so I could work on my website while we’re here. I don’t think I’ll be able to post pictures but there’s a lot that I can do otherwise. He’s just finished work so I should get ready so we can go to some stores to pick up various items we might need, not the least of which is more food. lol
