Bedroom Collages

I’ve had two bedrooms in my life in which I covered most of the walls and ceiling in massive collages of photos.

I’ve only worked on two real life collages so far, but I guess what I’ve created has been on a larger than average scale. The first collage was conducted over 5 years in the Milan Michigan bedroom where I came of age, between 1992 & 1997. That collage was born of desperation & anger, depression & sexual awakening (plus a bunch of other things that I can’t even recall at this point). I never really thought of myself as artistic at the time, but friends assured me that what I’d done was inspired. I didn’t document

that creation as well as I should have, but what I do have will be viewable here soon.

My Bookshelf:

Frank Herbert:
Children of Dune

Poppy Z. Brite:
Wormwood,
Drawing Blood,
Exquisite Corpse

Anne Rice:
The Mummy or Ramses the Damned
The Tale of the Body Thief
Lasher
Taltos
Memnoch the Devil
Servant of the Bones
The Master of Rampling Gate
various Anne Rice comics including The Vampire Lestat
The Vampire Companion
The Witch’s Companion

Between The Mummy & Tale there is a VHS copy of the 1992 film “Tale of a Vampire” which my friend Darla had loaned me. I disliked it.

Lucy (Sadie Frost) carrying the baby in Bram Stoker’s Dracula.

Bela Lugosi as Dracula.

Amanda Donohoe as Lady Sylvia Marsh in Lair of the White Worm.

Madonna and various images of men from her Sex book.

Christopher Lee as Dracula at the top to the right.

Sara Gilbert in the center.

Kurt Cobain with a guitar, below Sara.

Stephen King to Kurt’s right.

Rod Jackson & Robert Clark Paris
to King’s right (kissing).

John Koviak from Propaganda magazine below Kurt and King.

Brandon Lee as Eric Draven from The Crow below Koviak.

Sandman below Lee, bottom right corner.

River Phoenix to right of Koviak, above Lee & Sandman.

The second collage began in mid 2007 and ended in 2011, shortly before I left that bedroom behind. The second was a lot less painful, quite a bit less graphic and a lot more colorful.
