I discovered Caitlin R. Kiernan through a website that she once shared with Poppy Z. Brite. I'd never heard of her before and decided to check out one of her books. I bought Silk, read it in about 2 days, had nightmares for weeks about giant spiders, that never really "appeared" in the book, read it again, and sang her praises to everyone I've ever met since. I read in an afterward for one of Poppy's collections, that Caitlin (who's name has a punctuation mark that I have no idea how to replicate here) discovered Poppy the same way I did, which I thought was cool. Then, only recently, I finally broke down and bought the rest of her stuff. I actually bought "Threshold" last year and really loved that book, though, I stopped half way through, because I was so worried about one of the characters (don't worry, I'll be finishing it soon enough). In "From Weird And Distant Shores" she mentions listening to Catherine Wheel; I don't know anyone else who even knows who they are, let alone someone who actually listens to them. She also called a story "Two Worlds And In Between" which made me smile, at the Sisters Of Mercy reference. And when I read the title to her Threshold "sequel" (Low Red Moon) it reminded me of a Belly song that I once put on a Halloween themed tape for an ex-boyfriend of mine, and low & behold, she talked about listening to that Belly Album in the Author's Note. I guess it just surprises me that we have these kinds of influences in common, though we are probably nothing alike. I do really enjoy her stories though, and look forward to whatever else she may release in the future.
